Mary Colette's Baptism

This past weekend we welcomed another little one into the Body of Christ.
Mary Colette was baptised at St. Joseph's Church by Father Hector.
We were richly blessed with a most of our family being able to make the trip.

Avery is all ready to go...the "mo-mo cyc-cyc" adds that little something to his outfit.

Mary Colette snuggled in her Daddy's arms, while godparents, Uncle Chris and Aunt Ruth look on.

Mary Colette was very vocal about the entire baptism. Her arms are thrown back in a serious scream here.
PT and Avery look a little concern.

The light of Christ did little for the screaming.

Ahhh, she finally stopped when Father Hector introduced her to the parish family.
Father Hector was beaming a little bit!

With her godparents...Ruth Ann is expecting a little girl in November!

Grands and Greats.
Again we are so blessed to have so much family gather for Mary Colette's Baptism.
Almost all of our Michigan family came and Grandma and Granddaddy came up from Houston!

Uncle Stephen all the way from Michigan.

Maher and Aunt Mere-mere made the trip up from Austin!

Uncle Matty made the hike from Peoria!

Well, Gia did not make a hike, but she put on a wonderful display of love with the most beauty brunch after the baptism.

Practicing.

We did not get a family picture with my side at the church so here it is at the house...Mary Colette is the little bow at the bottom.

Welcome home Mary Colette.

Why I love my life!

Dangerous Saftey

Fortunately for my generation, the age of enlightenment for ultra-safe playgrounds began after our jungle-gym explorations had come to an end. I still remember falling off the slide backwards and having the wind knocked out of me, puking up my bologna sandwich after an over-zealous merry-go-round session, twisting my ankle after an orbit-entering jump off of the swing, along with various and sundry head bumps, splinters, abrasions, blisters and hyper-extended fingernails. And look at me now! There's not a (twitch....twitch) thing wrong with me.

Mammasita likes to brag about her high school softball team doing a FOD for broken glass in the infield before every practice. I dare you to try today to get a teenage girl to slide into third base with known flesh-rending objects in the ground without receiving any letters from their fathers' attorneys. Ain't gonna happen, Sid.

What kind of football are we going to have to watch when all these kids who never takes risks or get hurt on the playground start making wimpy tackles?........ Ok. That's not a good example. What kind of Marine Corps will we count on if 19 year-old recruits have never had to deal with a decent scrape on their knee? They'll all want to join the Air Force!

This just confirms me in my desire to build a big, dangerous playground to teach my children risk taking and assessment habits...and that their father will always be there to help them when they need it most.

4th of July

For the 4th of July we headed down to a near by town to watch a parade.

The boys being so cute and charming were asked if they wanted to ride on the float.

They got the flag wave down.

Ohh, you thought just the little boys were cute and charming.
No Philip was invited too!

Mary Colette and I watch, well I did more watching than she.

Yup, that's one of the benefits to knowing the owner of Chick-fil-a;
riding in the local parade!

Observations

Paul Thomas and Colette were sharing some cuddle time when he remarked,
"Hey, she smiled upside down!...well, actually it looked kinda sad."

I wonder what sort of liquid this Jesus would weep?

Incidents like this always cause me distress over people's ideas of Christianity. Jesus never promised us that he his image would appear on random media and people go crazy over these things. Tell them that he is present in the sacraments, as he promised he would be, and we Catholics are superstitious, out-dated, idolatrous, and un-biblical.

Friday Photo Favorites

My baby girl is already three weeks old today!
She is growing much too quickly weighing 8 lbs 5 oz.
Yesterday, I got my act together and mailed most of her announcements. With the help of Gia, we made them here in more of a scrap booking style.
Here are the two pictures we settled on.

And because we have two boys!
Dinosaur hair!

Sleep, no we never get enough!

Life with a newborn
( I can't get enough of little yawns!)

Watch the first 20 seconds.

I was listening to Philip read the boys a bedtime story and kept wondering why he was making awkward dramatic pauses. When I glanced up his head was bobbing as was Avery's, in an effort to follow along the bobbing book. I missed most of the sleeping action, but you get the idea. We don't get enough sleep around here!

Meeting Uncle Matty

Mary Colette got to meet her Uncle Matty the other day via skype.
We are so blessed to live in a world that allows us to use modern devices to help us stay connected with loved ones!

We love you Uncle Matty!

Big Brother Knows Best

The other day Colette was fussing and crying while Gia was trying to settle her down.
Paul Thomas came up and said to her, "I think she wants me to hold her."
And so he did get to hold her, who could resist.

(This is PT holding Colette on day 2 of life outside. Notices PT's eyes. They are swollen and puffy because of crazy allergies which kept him up til 2:00 am totally freaked out because he couldn't see. After some benadryl they look tons better see above picture.)

Oh and the pacifier is so last week now.

He is what some might call a baby hog, a darn cute baby hog at that.
