Paul Thomas (and I) just finished up his big project for this year (and a half). Moving twice and having a baby really pushes the fun parts of homeschooling back, however this project was worth pursuing and finishing. The outcoming is worthy of hanging on our post fire freshly painted walls. (Hopefully sooner rather than later.)
His assignment was to make a family tree, however it was a bit blah and didn't go into much depth of family members so as any good moving twice, pregnant and post baby homeschooling mama would do we vamped it up a bit. (Disclaimer: this is the only thing I vamped up and really it's what I enjoy doing. I struggle in other areas of homeschooling such as and not limited to: reading, spelling, writing, grammar...however I do a great job with arts and crafts so their college essay will sparkle if nothing else.) Along with the awesome family tree above Paul Thomas came up with a list of questions and sent out "interviews" for the family members which I counted as copywork. When the interviews came back I was blown away! The amount of love that oozed out of the carefully written responses was just breath taking. I truly mean that. We felt so loved and honored to get to know and love each family member more deeply. We laughed to as we learned that one of Gia's favorite toys as a child was a plush snake. And at how both Gia and Ganny loved their cowboy inspired toys. We want to ask Granddaddy more about Brazil, and are eager to try one of Grandma's favorite snacks. We maverled at the imagination PawPaw had/has to construct all his cars and roadways out of sticks and rocks and wonder if we are robbing our children of that with all the bells and whistles on their mountains of toys. We cherished our cousins response that a "Valentine place with no bad guys" is where he would most like to travel, and why not! All of us felt awful and hugged our blankets a bit tighter when we heard of the unfortunate fate of Aunt Jessica's. We understand Daddy's love for popcorn comes from Papa, tomatoe soup and popcorn comes from GeeGee. We love to think of Nana enjoying her mother's applesauce, and Poppy enjoying Dish Rag soup. In a word this project was-amazing!
Thank you everyone for helping us out. This was just beyond expectations.
Here's a close up of the almost finished product. One little pink bird needs to be add, however she'll have to wait till we get back into our house.
I am looking forward to comparing the family trees as each child does theirs...hope everyone is up for round two! (When we get back home that is.)
