"I know, maybe God will let us move close by them," trying to console myself more than her.
After a bit in a frustrated, exasperated, forlorn tone, "Why does God get to make all the decisions!"
After looking for a bit at the pictures on the cover of one of our rosary books she got worried and said, "Mommy, Mommy look! That's where they put Jesus on the cross! I wish they didn't do that. Then Jesus would still be with us today!"
"That's how much Jesus loves you. He was willing to die for you on the cross." Really one needs to witness all the facial and body expressions that go along with any discussion with this cherub...hands over mouth in anticipation and worry, swaying and arms crossed over heart at the mention of love.

A moment to reflect...(this was all happening while I was wrestling a very wiggly baby into a diaper.)
"Maybe we have to get on the cross to be with Jesus in Heaven!" She said this in a very hopeful and matter of fact tone, as if to say "that's that...dust off your hands and get on your cross." She then happily skipped away.
Oh my little one, how profound those words are.
It really is amazing how theologically correct a deep thinking child can be.. being very literal yet expressing exactly the principle we need to understand. When Philip was about this age, perhaps even a bit younger, he and I were playing "Church"; he was the priest (of course) and he pretended to distribute the Sacrament to me with these words... "The piece of the The Lord." It blew me away!
ReplyDeleteOn another note.. Gia and Poppy moving; we feel your Pain; been there and done that. Those who move and those who stay - all hearts are wounded for awhile but the deep loving relationships abide and grow and change into something greater. That "Love knows no boundaries" is Truth. Julia and Philip... I have every confidence that you two will be given the perfect words by The Holy Spirit to console your little ones and yourselves for such a time as this. Our prayers are with all of you... (and we will miss not seeing Gia and Poppy too)

Yes, Kim those are my parents that live just a few blocks away. Close enough for my bigs to walk there! They are moving to be closer to Father Hoelscher, so the St. Louis area is where they are looking. There house is in the final stages and the selling phase...one more signature and then closing on Nov. 6...We are heavy hearted, however are excited for their new adventure. (Threw that bit in just incase they read this.)
